Jeans Day School Program Inspires Kids to Give Back to Kids
Odlum Brown Limited supports the Jeans Day School Program and School Match Program for students across BC raising funds for Jeans Day
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: VANCOUVER, BC (May 2, 2018) – In celebration of Jeans Day, a fundraiser for BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF), we are pleased to recognize the staff and students at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island for their fundraising efforts. In the past 5 years, Shawnigan Lake School has raised nearly $23,000 for Jeans Day through the School Program, sponsored by Odlum Brown Limited.
As one of the top fundraising schools, the students and staff at Shawnigan Lake have turned Jeans Day into an opportunity for student leaders to rally the school together to make a change. Coordinated by teacher Jason Lam and the grade 11 Round Table group at Shawnigan Lake, students organize a series of events associated with Jeans Day. In addition to fundraising, the students organize dorm challenges, denim head-to-toe contests and assemblies. Every year a student speaks about the impact BC Children’s Hospital has had on them, or someone in their family. Their stories put the event into perspective for the students and make all their efforts feel validated: the school sees over a 90% participation rate from their 530 students and nearly 200 staff.
“They realize they’re just kids helping other kids,” said Mr. Lam. “Although they are young, they know that they have the ability to help others.”
About the Jeans Day School Program and School Match Program sponsored by Odlum Brown Limited
- The School Program includes Jeans Day collateral exclusive to schools, such as athlete trading cards, fundraising envelopes, and a toolkit for school fundraisers.
- Odlum Brown has been the Official School Program Sponsor for the last 10 years. Odlum Brown has been a long-standing partner of BCCHF. They have been supporting BCCHF through a combination of corporate and employee fundraising since the 1990’s – and began to sponsor Jeans Day in 2008.
- For the first time this year, students had the opportunity to double the impact of their fundraising through a school specific matching program. The first $25 raised is matched by Odlum Brown, up to a maximum of $5,000.
- The Jeans Day School Program encourages participants to share #JeanUp photos and tag @OdlumBrownCommunity on Facebook or @Odlum_Brown on Twitter, for a chance to win an autographed jersey from one of three Jeans Day sports team ambassadors – the Vancouver Canucks, Vancouver Whitecaps FC, or the BC Lions. The winner will be announced on Monday, May 7.
